I am combining two great weekly blog hops: Stacking The Shelves by Team Tynga's Reviews, and Sunday Post by Caffeinated Reviewer. I hope to read as many of the blogs from these two hops as possible because I love to see what everyone is reading!

Personal Update:
It's been a time of great change in my house since school started. I changed jobs, and my youngest child went off to college VERY far away! And while all these changes are very good things, they've been huge adjustments for me and my family. Plus, it has forced me to face the fact that I am getting older and need to be thoughtful prioritizing how I spend my limited free time.

With all this reflection, I am naturally rethinking how much energy I want to spend on books and blogging. I really love books and sharing my thoughts with others on what I've read. But I want to be deliberate in what I do. I don't want to just read anything, just because I can get an ARC for free.
I write this as I look over at my overflowing bookshelves! So my intention for this year is to actually read what I already own!
With a goal of reading 10 books a month (normal for me), here is my game plan:
ARC's: 2 to 3 per month
Library Books: 2 to 3 per month
Books I own: at least 4 per month
I do still plan on buying one book a month to participate in a local book club, but I will TRY to limit myself to just the one book.
Can I do this?

What are some of your bookish goals?

Those sound like reasonable goals! I've only ever read what I wanted to read, I accept ARCs or other review books when the book was already on my list or radar, so why not try to read it early? Though I think once I clear out my current ARC pile, I might even be more picky so I can read all the books I've bought over these last few years. I'll still buy the books I know I want to read from favorite authors or continuing series, but I am going to try not to constantly add anything that strikes my fancy--though this rule might go out the window if I attend any events this year! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThese are some new to me reads, though I have been hearing buzz about Diamond City! I hope you enjoy all the new reads!
My StS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Yes, I have an ARC pile that is embarrassing! But I think if I tackle two to three a month, I will get it under control.
DeleteCongratulations on your new job! I wish you luck with your reading goals for this year. You can do it! I would like to read more of my own books this year as well, but I do have a number of review books I've fallen behind on. I've had my eye on The Girl With No Names and Diamond City. I look forward to reading your thoughts on them. I am glad you enjoyed Waxman's novel. I did too. It was such a delight to read. Have a great weekend! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your name! I am enjoying The Girls with No Names (but I have a few issues with some of the plot...). I am not loving Diamond City. I'll finish both soon and post reviews. I hate posting negative reviews. I know how hard it is to write and get published. But some of what is wrong with Diamond City is SO wrong, I feel I need to say something! I will try and find your blog.
DeleteSounds like a solid plan. I am aiming to read more of my own books this year too. I also need to buy books for my Kindle instead of physical ones. They are usually cheaper and I'm running out of space. I do already use my library a lot though. Hope you have a great 2020!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have lots of books on my Kindle too, for that same reason. It seems like wither my library books come in all at once, or an ARC is due, so I get caught up with those and don't make time for my Kindle books or the physical ones I already have. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteGood luck with your reading goals. I really liked Fever so I hope you and your Book Club does too!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Quite a goal! Having deadlines with ARCs is my biggest motivation (excuse?) to my family that I HAVE to read :D I think Girls with No Names is coming up on my list too. I just bought a few books I need for a trivia contest, but usually I don't buy many at all.
