Stacking The Shelves #82 & Sunday Post #45

I am combining two great blog hops:  Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer).  Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about.  I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription.  If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back! As always, all book cover images are linked to GoodReads so if you see a book you want to learn more about, just click away...

On The Blog Last Week:

I really enjoyed Rich People Problems, by Kevin Kwan.  It's kind of over the top, but it is fun and full of memorable characters.  I highly recommend this book!

In "Real Life":
I have been feeling intense pressure to read as many books as possible to meet my Goodreads goal (which I now see was an impossible goal for me).  This is cutting my enjoyment of reading way down, and has had me questioning why I am even doing this.

I think I am in a reflective mood because an amazing woman (about my age) I knew died suddenly this past week.  It is a real shock to those who knew her, as she was such a vibrant personality.  It seems impossible that she is gone.  Her sudden death is a potent reminder to me to use my time wisely.  As much as I love reading, I also want to connect more with friends and family.  So I may need to cut down on the number of books I read in the future.  You never know how long your life will be.

Yes, it was also my birthday last weekend!  My family was really sweet and gave me this book!  Now I need to re-read all the previous books before I read Wings and Ruin, but I love to binge read a series!

That's it for this week.  What books are you burning to read?  Let me know in the comments.

And for all my teacher friends in the Bay Area...

    1. Thank you, Jessica. I have read the first book and loved it. Now I have all three books, I will go on a happy reading binge! I have also actively avoided talk about the series so I won't see spoilers! Have a great week.

    1. Thank you, Grace. I also have the second book but haven't read it yet. Now I can read it and dive straight into the next book when I'm finished. I hate waiting a year to find out what happened!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. And I think that if the Goodreads Challenge is stressing you out then you should stop doing it. Reading is supposed to be something to do for enjoyment, don't let a silly challenge ruin it for you. I hope you spend some fun times with friends, and find time to do the things that you truly want to do!

  5. Sorry to hear about your friend. I think a lot of us bloggers are bad about pressuring ourselves to always read more. Just do what you enjoy. Happy belated birthday and enjoy your gifts.

  6. Sorry to hear about your friend, especially so young. I changed my Goodreads challenge to 50 books this year from 200-250, like you, the past couple years I wasn't enjoying the books I read and most of them I couldn't tell you what it was about, I just rushed through them to meet my goal. Since I changed my challenge I started blogging again, because I do have more time and I'm enjoying what I read now and I'm able to spend more time with family and friends. I'm sure you will make the right choice for yourself.

Happy Belated Birthday, books are always great to get as gifts. Have a wonderful reading week.

  8. Happy belated birthday! It looks like you got a great gift. Definitely take a step back when you feel like you're not enjoying reading like you should and can be. There is always a lot of pressure these days, but don't let it get to you too much!

I hope you enjoy all of your new books! Have a wonderful weekend, Ardis. =)

  9. There's absolutely nothing wrong with updating your Goodreads goal to a more practical number. I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

  10. It's alright to read less, especially if it makes you stressed out. I had to lower my Goodreads goal down to 80 books this year because every time I try to read 100 books a year, I just feel too stressed out about having to read that many books a year. Hope you find a reading goal that's right for you!

  11. Happy belated Birthday! And OMG YES! Marathoning the ACOTAR series is the best way you won't have to wait between books you can just read through and feel all the feels!

  12. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I set my GR goal pretty low this year. Reading is just a hobby and I don't want to feel pressure to read. I love the cover for This Waking Land. It's on my never-ending list. Happy reading!
