Stacking The Shelves # 94 & Sunday Post # 57

I am combining two great blog hops:  Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer).  Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about.  I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription.  If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back! As always, all book cover images are linked to GoodReads so if you see a book you want to learn more about, just click away...

On The Blog:
It's been a rather slow week on the blog.  Work is starting soon so I am using this week to power through a bunch of ARCs I need to read (and review).

Plus, with the awful events happening in this country (and around the world), I'm having a tough time putting so much energy in a book blog.  As most of you are also bloggers, you know how much effort it is to generate content.  But when I'm worried about things, it is so hard to put it all aside and write.

Monday:  Bay Area Book Events # 59

Tuesday:  ARC Review:  The Mountain by Paul Yoon

In "Real Life":
I've read some fun books this week, but also some lame ones.  I started a fantasy series that many people I know love, but I could only get through two chapters before realizing I didn't like it.  I'm bummed, but also relieved.  I really wanted to like these books, but the writing was terrible (show, not tell, people!).  I was relieved because now I have more time to read books I'm excited about.  Speaking of which...

New Books:
Edelweiss:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33385229-they-both-die-at-the-endhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29923707-one-dark-throne?ac=1&from_search=true
Amazingly, I got approved for these books by Edelweiss.  I have had a hard time getting approvals from this ARC service, so I am pleased as punch to get any approvals.  But when I opened the email showing I got to read One Dark Throne, I actually squealed!  I can't wait to read this!!!

I'm already half finished with They Both Die At The End.  It truly is wonderful and got me crying already.  It's a powerful reminder that we don't know how much time we have on this earth, so we need to make the most of every day.

Let me know what you are reading, and doing, right now, and I will try to be better at responding to each post.  I hope everyone is safe, and having a wonderful summer.  Hugs...

  1. Ooh nice! I'm really hoping to enjoy One Dark Throne since Three Dark Crowns was a bit of a mess for me. But I loved Kendare's Anna books so I feel obligated to give it another shot! Happy Reading!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. Personally, I liked Three Dark Crowns very much. But I can see why people wouldn't like it. I haven't read any of her other books, so I should try them as well. Have a wonderful week.

  2. I totally know what you mean about being distracted by the world and feeling uncreative. I’m also having trouble concentrating. I hope you enjoy your new books. I’m looking forward to reading They Both Die at the End when it comes out.

    1. I just finished They Both Die at The End. It brought up lots of great questions and ethical issues for me. I loved how it reminded me to live for the now, because we don't know how much time we actually have in this life.

  4. Oh, you got Silvera! Nice. I'm posting a review of it next week, and I had mixed feelings. Glad you like it though!

    1. I really liked it. But I concede that the premise was hard for me to accept. I'm posting my review on August 30th, but it is already up on goodreads. Have a great week.

  5. The world is scary at the minute. I have heard great things about Adam Silveea and they both for at the end. Have a great week.

    1. Yes, it is a scary world, but I was heartened by people working on positive shows of unity against hate, in Boston. Have a wonderful week.

    1. Yes, I did a happy dance because I had given up hope of getting approved. I need to read a few more books first, and then I can start it. Happy reading.

  7. I'm with you. These past couple of weeks I've just flat ignored my (and other's) blog. I still need to read Three Dark Crowns--but I do own it. I've heard great things. When do you start work (are you still at a school)? Happy reading!

  8. Yes, worries about the world and our country do sap our creative energy. It is definitely harder to read and blog.

I hope things improve....and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. I worry too much about things I can't change! But I am hopeful for the future, as long as people stay informed. Have a beautiful week.

  9. Congrats on the approvals! Harper is sometimes a little slow but the surprise approvals are always the best.

The tone of events and atmosphere in this country is brutal. I wish things had gone differently in November. :/

I hope you enjoy all of your new books! Have a fabulous week, Ardis. =)

    Check out my STS post!

    1. Thank you, Alyssa. Here's hoping we get some great candidates in the next election cycle. I finally think I am getting a better hold of my ARC obligations, so I am slightly less stressed out, now. Have a wonderful week.
