I am combining two great blog hops: Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer). Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about. I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription. If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back! As always, all book cover images are linked to GoodReads so if you see a book you want to learn more about, just click away...

Monday: Bay Area Book Events
It was the best of times...
Tuesday author event to meet Elise Kova. Super fun and great people!
It was the worst of times...
Finding out that photobucket went from a free site to a paid site with no notice! I am having to spend a significant amount of time finding solutions to fix all the images that are broken. It would have been one thing to have given a heads up about this from the company, but to just shut people out and then demand money was an outrage. I get that the site needs to generate income, but many people were left in a lurch because of this.
and it was the best of times (again)...
My amazing brother (who is a web designer) spend two and a half hours last night helping me clean up the mess left behind from the photobucket fiasco! Plus, he assisted me in putting follow me buttons on the blog! So feel free to follow me on Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, and Goodreads! Thank you little Bro!

In Real Life:
I am amazed by how quickly the days are moving. I think I am getting stuff done, but then turn around and find more to occupy my time!
I finally got to start reviewing audio books for Random House!!! I have already listened to one, A House Among The Trees, by Julia Glass, which I will review next week. I'm having a little bit of a technical challenge with the audio books downloaded via the Box App. But I will figure it out soon enough.
I applied for a job at a bookstore, but even though I feel immensely qualified for the position as an events coordinator, I don't think I will get it. I already introduced myself to the manager of the store and talked with him. He seemed dubious about the fact that I haven't done retail sales in years. Well, that's what happens when you leave the workforce to be a stay-at-home parent. So while I feel confident that I could do the job, I don't think the manager was sold on my abilities (sigh).
New Books:
Public Library:
NetGalley:
Bought:
I've already read the Alchemists of Loom as an ARC, but I had to buy a hardcover copy! Aren't both books beautiful? Of course, they are signed by Elise Kova from her book event that I attended. That's it for this week. Did you get to do anything fun this week? If not, go out and do something this weekend. Summer is officially half way over!!!
That might explain why one of my blogs I follow suddenly had all these image cannot be displayed kind of thing going on! Lucky for you you have a techy brother! I have no techy people like that in my life! Sigh...
ReplyDeleteNice new reads! Haven't read any of these but have seen them around and hear good things! Hope you enjoy them all!
My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Yes, I am really fortunate to have a techy bro! I felt like he was teaching me a class in coding in order to help me! What makes me mad about the photobucket thing is that there was no notice at all of these changes. They should have given people time to decide if they wanted to stay with the service or not. Most people who use that site are not web designers, so this will be hard for them to make any adjustments. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteOh wow, I had no idea about the Photobucket thing! That's crazy. Luckily I haven't used them for a really long time so I think I'm good. Yayy for your brother being able to help you out. My husband is the tech guy around here. I'm clueless. lol
ReplyDeleteI bought When Dimple Met Rishi recently but I haven't gotten to pick it up yet. Everyone seems to have loved it tho. Hope we both enjoy it too! lol
I just started When Dimple Met Rishi, and it is so good! It is a light romance, but full of humor and the characters are really delightful! Have a wonderful week.
DeleteThe Photobucket thing downright broke my blog. A woman who isn't even around anymore created mine, so I can't even pay to get my images back...because they are her's. I just switched over to WordPress. Such a pain in the ass. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you about the job! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy new site is here: Natflix&Books
I went to your blog and I was really impressed with how it looks! I love the new style. I would use wordpress, but it would take a long time to convert everything. I will need to buy my brother something really nice for Christmas to say thank you! But I will consider it for the future. Blogger is very clunky!!!
DeleteHope this weeks fare better for you. There are so many wonderful bookstores in the Bay Area. Wishing you the best in hooking up with one of them.
ReplyDeleteyes, this would have been my dream job. I am actually very happy with what I do now, but it would have been nice to combine my love of books with work...
DeleteI hate the Photobucket thing -- I don't even use it, but guys, seriously?? Glad your brother helped you fix it up! Enjoy the new books. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, now I don't use Photbucket either! I think they will lose the majority of their customers. Strong arm tactics aren't likely to work when there are so many choices out there. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteAg so sorry about the Photobucket change - that's so disappointing! :(
ReplyDeleteI bought When Dimple Met Rishi on my Kindle - it looks so good :D
Enjoy your new books! :)

My Book Haul!
I've already started When Dimple Me Rishi and it is really fun! Have a great time reading it.
DeleteThe Elise Kova books look really interesting. I hope you enjoy them! - Katie
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS --> http://justanothergirlandherbooks.blogspot.de/2017/07/stacking-shelves-15-july-2017.html
Thank you, Katie. I just went to your blog and it is amazing! I don't think I would have enough room on my bookshelves for all the books you got just last week! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI'm planning on reading When Dimple Met Rishi soon. It looks really cute. Enjoy your books.
ReplyDeleteI just finished When Dimple Met Rishi and it was adorable fun, much like a Jenny Han book. I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteThe photobucket thing is horrible. Good think you have a brother that was willing and had the knowledge to help you out! Yay for author events.
ReplyDeleteI stayed home for 6 or 7 years and had the hardest time finding a job when I needed to go back to work. I am sure that something will eventually work out for you as it did for me. Have a great week!
Thanks Carole. It's not like I haven't been working. I have a great job in a school as a Special Education Aide. But I thought I would be so well suited to this bookstore position, but I think it won't happen. No calls. Oh well. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteI keep hearing raves about When Dimple Met Rishi--it seems like a light, happy read.
ReplyDeleteThe new book by Julia Glass is intriguing; I just read her Three Junes and really liked it. Subscribing now so I can catch your review!
Allison at http://www.mindjoggle.com
I finished the Julia Glass book and it was wonderful. It's about the assistant for a famous children's author who works for him for decades. When he dies, she must assess if she was really important to him or was she just someone in his shadow. Very thought-provoking. I will visit your blog later today. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteActually, I did visit your wonderful blog, yesterday!
DeleteThat is terrible that Photobucket didn't give it's user any notifications, I've never used it before so I wasn't aware of what had happened. It's great that your brother was able to help you out.
ReplyDeleteGreat books you added this week, I hope you enjoy them all and hopefully the manager will give you a call soon with a position for you :)
Thank you, Jovita. No, there was no notification (but maybe it landed in my SPAM folder?). Well, I am learning more about html coding, right? Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteThis photo bucket thing seems to have being a nightmare for people...so glad I didn't use it - and you got yours sorted. Good luck with your job. It is hard returning to work but am sure you'll find the job you want.
ReplyDeleteMy post is Here
Thank you, Emma. I work right now in a school, which I love. But I have two months out of the year with no paycheck, so I am trying to find work that is more full time (or have two jobs)...
DeleteI quit using photobucket some time ago. I knew something hinky was coming. Have a great day.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental Sunday Memes
You are smart to have left photobucket when you did, Sherry! I guess that's the risk for using sites that are "free", they will need to monetize sooner or later. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWhat Photobucket did was so so crappy. The fact that they didn't give any notifications is so shady. I'm glad you were able to get everything fixed though!
ReplyDeleteAt least your week wasn't all that bad! The author sounds like fun. I liked the one book I've read by Elise Kova! I need to read more by her for sure. And yay Dimple! I love that book so much!
I have my fingers crossed for you regarding that job. You never know! Things may turn around! :)
Happy reading, and have a good week!
Nick @ Nick & Nereyda's Infinite Booklist
Thank you, Nick. I just finished When Dimple Met Rishi, and it was so much fun! I also live in the Bay Area, so I looked up several of the places mentioned in the book. There actually was a Two Sisters Ar & Books in SF, but it closed down in May! I would have totally gone there!
DeleteI enjoy Elise Kova's books so much, and the art work for these books is truly stunning. Thanks for stopping by.
That is really bad from Photobucket indeed. I hope you can find a good solution soon. At least you've got your awesome brother :)
ReplyDeleteYes, he is a really great guy. My husband also later helped me fix one of the follow buttons. I feel glad that they are teaching me, and not just doing it for me. I want to learn all I can. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWait this is the first I'm hearing about Photobucket...guess I should check on that. Also I'm so jealous you got to go to a Kova event the only one within 4 hours of me I had to work (after taking the previous week off so I couldn't miss it) but cheers! Listening to Dragons of Nova as I type!
ReplyDeleteThank you Eve. We had to drive about 80 minutes to the event, but it was worth it. Elise is a great example of how an author can go from self-published to getting a book deal! She was so nice, and the other readers who attended were wonderful as well. Have a super week.
DeleteYay for techie brothers! Glad you were able to get it all figured out. I know so many people were dealing with the hassle of photobucket! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteYes, my brother was really generous with his time, and patient with me, too. I still am fixing some minor glitches, but I think my blog looks better than ever! Have a great week.
DeleteWow, way to mess up a lot of people Photobucket. I hope you get it all sorted out. Keep your fingers crossed bout the bookstore job.:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenea (what a cool name, BTW). I don't have high hopes for the bookstore job, but I still have a job at the school which I enjoy. Kids are really fun, and my colleagues are wonderful. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteSorry about all the photo bucket drama, but YEAH! glad your brother could help. I have read the Ari Awakens books by Kova and loved them. I hope to start her new series soon. Dimple & Rishi is the cutest, most adorable book ever.
ReplyDeleteYes, I just finished Dimple & Rishi moments ago, and I loved it. It really reminded me of Jenny Han's books. And I loved all the references to San Francisco, as I live in the Bay Area. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteI hope you get the job. I'm sure there is a lot you can bring to it. I'd love to own a bookstore someday but know I'd be in over my head. I'd just read any profits. Not a good business plan. Those hardcovers are gorgeous and I've heard only good things about the first one. Hope you have a wonderful week and hear some great news soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good vibes, Barb. I would totally buy too many books if I got the job, so maybe it's for the best... Nope, I still want to work there. Oh well.
DeleteOooo, so awesome that you got to meet Elisa Kova! I see her name all over Twitter. Good luck with the job applications! I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous week, Ardis. =)
Check out my STS post!
Thank you, Alyssa. Elise was wonderful. I love going to book events. The only reason I don't go to more of them is that I can't afford to buy so many books! Have a great week.
DeleteI had heard that about Photobucket :( I don't get that they didn't tell people in advance.. I used them a lot years ago, but stopped mainly because often, the images didn't show up the way I wanted them to on my blog.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week and enjoy your new books, Ardis!
