I am combining two great blog hops: Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer). Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about. I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription. If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back!
I am participating in the Amazon affiliate program, so if you click on any of the book covers it will take you to Amazon if you want to buy the book. I will be getting a small fee for each purchase.
On The Blog:
I was pleased with what I was able to post this week. I had a mixed review of Surprise Me, by Sophie Kinsella, but I loved the book, Where The Wild Cherries Grow, by Laura Madeleine.
I am seriously considering trying out Booktubing. On the one hand, I think this could be a fun, new way to communicate with others. But I have concerns about trolls.
Have any of you done a Booktube? What has your experience been? Has it been positive or not? Please let me know in the comments.
In "Real Life":
We had a short week with Valentine's Day on Wednesday, and Friday off. The Kindergartners were certainly adorable on Valentine's Day. We had a lovely party that the parents put on for the students.
Of course, I am fighting off sickness... AGAIN!@?# I am trying out Zinc pills to see if they will help out at all. I love working with kids, but this year I have been sick so darn much!
Before I felt ill, I went to an amazing event at Books Inc., in San Francisco to see David Levithan and Jesse Andrews. They were promoting the movie of David's book, Everyday. The two writers were really entertaining and I got several books signed!

Afterwards, we went to a cafe for dessert, and had scrumptious cake and pie. Our very attentive waiter Brian was so helpful, and we were serenaded by a live pianist. Later our waiter strolled up to the piano and starting singing! We were stunned. This guy had a Broadway quality voice!!! What a delightful surprise.

Ooh nice! Those are new to me reads! But yay for a book signing! I haven't been to one since the beginning of the month! Lol! Already getting itchy for another but the next one I can attend isn't until the 17th of next month! Super excited though!
ReplyDeleteNice new reads too! New to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!
My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Thank you, Jessica. Book events are so inspirational to me. I love putting a face to an author, and getting a glimpse of their creative process. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteI would not be able to handle hateful and mean comments but the trick is to simply ignore them. irdk. On the other hand, in the book blogging community, comments are generally super nice and supportive. Don't you think? :) Thanks for sharing this week with us and have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jackie. I think I will try Booktubing. I just needed some encouragemnet from other bloggers. Thank you!
DeleteHere is My STS post. Sorry for the confusion
DeleteGood luck with Booktubing if you are really going to try it. I am too scared for Booktube, but love to watch others!

What a fun author event! I absolutely loved Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. I'm trying to sneak in Everyday before the movie comes out (I won't watch it until DVD, so I have a couple of months). Sorry you're sick. Working at a school definitely makes you susceptible to ALL the germs. Happy reading!

That would be a great book signing! It sounds like the restaurant after was even more entertaining. Too bad that you have been sick as much as you have. I do think that being around kids can make it hard to stay well. Have a great week and enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never tried making videos. I’m way too awkward for that. I don’t think anyone would want to watch me. Sorry you’re sick, but it’s cool that you got to meet some authors and go to a nice restaurant. Enjoy your new books!

Lucky you meeting David! I love Every Day, and now that it's going to be a movie, I might use it for class one year. I really enjoy analyzing the differences between a novel and a movie :)
ReplyDeleteI have posted something bookish once on my youtube channel. I don't have many followers, though, and I did it mostly as a joke because so many people told me they wanted to hear my accent:D
Your new books all look good, I hope you'll enjoy them!
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

I have not tried Booktubing. Good luck if you try it! Hope you feel better soon and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI've thought about Booktubing, but I think for me the problem is less about trolls and more about not having a good enough camera. Also, from what I hear, you only get trolls when you're crazy popular, and even then, I don't think it's a huge thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Shell's Stories!
If you decide to Booktube, let me know so I can add your channel. I don't do it but I watch it tons! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteThe cover for Blood of a Thousand Stars is so pretty. Not many authors come to my area, well none really. Glad you got meet some great authors. I enjoyed Everyday and look forward to the movie. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBook events are awesome! And cake and pie too boot? You obviously had a great day :) I read Every Day and it was okay for me. I've never tried doing any videos at all and I don't follow any either.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to any book signing ever, they are kinda rare around where I live. But we are having a lit fest soon, which I may be attending. I am excited!
