I am combining two great blog hops: Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer). Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about. I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription. If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back!
On The Blog:
Monday: Bay Area Book Events # 87
Tuesday: Take Control of your TBR Challenge
I have come to a big decision regarding my blog. I am discontinuing my weekly post, Bay Area Book Events. There are several reasons for this, but chief among them is that it is an enormous time suck! It takes me around two and a half hours each week to create this post, without much in the way of readership. So for my own sanity, I need to let it go.
I will focus more on book reviews, and on writing my own book!
In Real Life:
It's been a strange couple of weeks for me. The husband of a friend of mine passed away unexpectedly. Then yesterday, I learned that a friend from high school died, as well. Both of these people were relatively young, and had kids still in school. This has really made me think about my own life and how I want to use my limited time.
Part of that is making it a priority to read all of the books I already have on my bookshelves. Why do I continue to purchase books when I haven't even read the ones I have staring at me on my bookcase? I think it's because I seem to chase what it new and shiny, rather than appreciate what I have right in front of me.
So there are no new books for me, at least for this week...
What I have been reading:
How are you doing on your TBR pile? Can you actually resist getting new books? Tell me how you do it in the comments.
Congrats on the self control this week on book buying. I have through about re-reading Simon this week to get ready for the movie.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the unexpected deaths. *Hugs.* Those always make you reevaluate things. I hope you enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I can definitely relate to wanting to read what I already have! I have that issue too. I'm sorry to hear about your friend and friend's husband passing. That must be so shocking.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking seriously of getting The cruel Prince. It sounds quite good. And good luck with the writing! It can be hard to give up a feature you care about, I feel like sometimes the best features don't get near enough readers. :(
Oh what a nice bunch of books you have! I hope you are enjoying Cassandra Clare's Lord of Shadows. I sure did. If it's not on my shelf, I take advantage of the library when I want to read a new book. Here's My Sunday Post
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying TDA. A big reveal in LoS was spoiled for me by the moderator at BookCon last year, but I still enjoyed it. Loved Simon! I am totally jealous that all my co-bloggers are going to see the movie together next week. Wish I was there. I read Catch-22 in my teens (a long time ago), but I remember sort of liking it. I hope you enjoy all your books.
ReplyDeleteYay for not adding to the TBR pile! What's hard for me in not constantly buying new books is that I really do want to read them all! I want to read all the ones I have and I want to read the new ones...some of which are usually continuing already loved series and I want to support the authors in keeping those series alive until they are good and finished! Lol! Congrats for not adding to the TBR pile! I didn't fair so well in that area, but 2 of them were just keeper copies! Lol!
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Sorry for the recent losses. I am glad you are refocusing on things you enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Lady Midnight and LOVE IT!! Lots of lovely books. I hope you have a good week in reading. I just got back in my home after a week of no power so I am behind in things. Have a good week. =)

Sorry to hear about the losses you’ve went through lately. Focusing on what you have right now, is a good thing to do. Life is too short, find the things that make you happy.
ReplyDeleteI listened to Lady Midnight and liked it. I also want to read Simon vs. Homosapiens Agenda. Sorry about the losses this week and it does make you reflect on the time that you have. Hope you have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThe Cruel Prince is high on my want to buy list but I'm more or less banned from buying books at the moment. Like yourself, I'm trying to read what I have staring at me on the bookshelf unread!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
