Must Read:
I read this book as part of a blog tour and it was wonderful! It deals with the transition from elementary to middle school and how one girl finds "her tribe". So many bad things happen to this kid! When she begins to look beyond first impressions and see people for who they really are, her life begins to blossom. I wrote a review and there is an author giveaway. Must Listen:
I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Jim Dale. He also narrated the Harry Potter series for the U.S. market. He gives a dreamlike quality to whatever he reads, which is a great fit for this book. The book itself is mysterious, romantic and exciting.
Must Watch:
I love this movie version of my favorite Jane Austin book. It was originally made for PBS. I like it because it is not a glamed up version of that time period. Things, and people, are gritty. The women are realistically portrayed. I love how Anne goes through a subtle transition from shy and dowdy to more confident and quietly lovely. All the characters are wonderfully portrayed. I love seeing Fiona Shaw as the warm, caring Mrs. Croft. If you only know her as Aunt Petunia from the Harry Potter movies, this will come as a revelation.
