I am combining two wonderful weekly features: Stacking The Shelves (hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews) and Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer). But of these features allow people to blog hop to dozens of great book blogs and see what books they acquired, and what everyone is excited about this week.
If you like what you see, please consider following me. Just let me know the method you use in the comments (Bloglovin, GFC, Networked Blogs, or email subscription), and I pinky promise to follow you back!

Summer is almost over for me as school starts in about a week! I love working in a school but I am not naturally a morning person so getting up at stupid o'clock is really hard. My son had his birthday this week and we serenaded him with the Taylor Swift song 22! I am really proud of him. my other kids are trying to squeeze in as much summer fun into these last few days so I am constantly having to drive them places. I am so glad I got Spotify Premium! Lots of music and no commercials = sanity.

I also got a new haircut and color on Friday! I have VERY curly hair, but Brenda (The stylist) is a miracle worker! It will go back to curly in another day or so, but it's nice to know I have the option to have a straight hair look once in a while.
Me and my "Mini Me" both with straight hair! |
Read This week:
There were two books this week that I loved and gave 5 stars to: Earth's End and An Ember In The Ashes.
I'm a sucker for star-crossed lovers and royal intrigue. Earth's End, the third book in this series, had so many payoff moments for Aldrik and Vhalla. I can't wait to start the next book!
An Ember In The Ashes was an audio book and I LOOOOVED IT! It is set in a time that is sort of like ancient Rome and is about two people (a privileged soldier, and a slave) who both want to escape. It is romantic and ruthless all at once.
On the other side of the spectrum, Secrets in The Snow was terrible. I already posted a review on GoodReads, but I really hated it.
Jack Death was an interesting book, but I'm not sure who the intended audience is. I read like a Roald Dahl book, but was overly violent. I think it might scare middle grade readers...
I just finished with Soundless by Richelle Mead, and I really enjoyed it. I think it did not get a great reception when it first came out, but I thought elements of it (such as the mc describing hearing for the first time) to be really imaginative. The ending was not exactly perfect, but I will write a review of it soon to go into more detail.

I first became enthralled by the Clara Vine series when I read The Pursuit Of Pearls from NetGalley. It is about an actress who becomes a British Spy during WWII. It was so well written that I didn't realize it was book four in a series! So I tried to find the first three books. I later understood that these are British books and they just aren't available in the US. The only place I could find them is through Book Depository, so I had to get all of them. Okay yes, I have no self-control, but isn't this cover stunning?
How was your week? What books did you love or hate? Let's talk.
Magic of the Gargoyles has been on my tbr for about a month-but I don't know when I'll get round to reading it! Too many books, too little time! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteAh, the motto of my life, as well! Whenever I do these blog hops, I am always amazed at how people can find all these free books! Finding that one blog was golden! Have a fun weekend.
DeleteOh nice new reads! Mostly new to me ones! Though I did read Soundless. It was a nice little read, but not without its flaws. Hope you enjoy all your lovely reads!
ReplyDeleteMy STS post will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I agree, Soundless was enjoyable but did have some logic flaws. Have a great week of reading.
DeleteAwesome haul of books. Soundless was very good. I hope you love all of your new books.
ReplyDeleteGrace @ Books of Love
Thank you, Grace. I liked Soundless but I didn't think it needed the magical ending. I am really looking forward to reading A War Of Flowers, but it is book 2, so I need to get book 1 first. It's on the way! Have a fun week.
DeleteBook buying bans are hard to stick with. :) I know from experience! And I love that cover of Scales! The cover of Magic of the Gargoyles isn't bad either. Sorry that Secrets in the Snow was a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteSummer is flying by. Can't believe school is starting again soon...
I've never been a morning person either, so getting up early for school was the bane of my existence. I imagine that must be the worst part about working at a school lol.
ReplyDeleteI too picked up some of those free books! I still have yet to read any book about gargoyles, though I've been meaning to. And I enjoyed another one of A.W. Exley's books and have been meaning to try the Nefertiti's Heart one.
Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
School is starting back for me soon, but at the end of the book! I am definitely not ready. I loved An Ember in the Ashes! For me, A Torch Against the Night wasn't *as* good, but I can see many people loving it. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous week. :)
