Here are my Musts for Monday!
Must Read:
Part graphic novel, full of action, adventure, and romance, this book surprised me in so many ways. I know I am a little late to the party, but I only just read this wonderful book. I purposefully stayed away from hearing much about this, and it was worth it. This is a book you must read to get the full effect. I don't know how this would come across as an audiobook, but I might listen to see what the producers do with it.
Must Listen:
This is a quick 5 minute daily podcast hosted by Garrison Keillor and highlights milestones in writing and poetry. I love the rumbling baritone of Garrison's voice as he explains interesting tidbits each day. The podcast finishes with a poem. It has made me widen my knowledge of writers and poets and propelled me to seek out the featured poets and explore more of their work. You can find this podcast on iTunes.
Must See:
This TED Talk by Rosie King, who challenges stereotypes about autistic people. I saw this at a training I went to last week, and it reminded me that people's uniqueness should be celebrated. It is only a six and a half minute video, but I will be well worth your time.
What are you excited to share this week? Make your own Monday Musts post and add it to the list!
Happy blogiversary!! Woo hoo! How long have you been blogging?
ReplyDeleteOne of these days I'm gonna have to read Illuminae. It's an intimidatingly large book but all of my friends who have read it have loved it.
Thank you Kim. Actually, Illuminae is a quick read, due to the way the book works. It really is a graphic novel. It is so creative, you will love it.
DeleteOh happy blogoversary Ardis! That's awesome! :) I LOVED Illuminae! The formatting is so amazing and the romance! Swooooon!
ReplyDeleteYes, Jessica, the book was wonderful! I read it in two days as I could not stop thinking about the characters.
DeleteI feel like I keep repeating myself, but great stuff once more! :). I really wanted to read Illuminae ever since I saw the layout of the book. Love the TED Talk video as well. I have Asperger's Syndrome and have hardly told anyone about it since my diagnosis last year because of what's mentioned in this video. People assume you're a retard or something right away, so I'd rather keep it to myself to make them still see me as the same person I was before the diagnosis. Guess what my special interest is, though ;-).
ReplyDeleteMy son has Asperger's and I think he is fine the way he is! He has such a creative way of looking at things that no one else thinks to see. He has graduated from college at age 20 and is now looking to start his career. Sometimes I need to adjust MYSELF to make sure I communicate clearly with him. But he is a wonderful guy! I was so surprised by Illuminae and I loved it! It made some amazing visual choices in it's presentation which really made the reading experience special. Have a wonderful week!
DeleteIs this the same son who's into Bill Bryson? ^^ That is amazing indeed! Autism doesn't have to hold you back. Understanding parents are also a huuuuge positive influence and I'm sure you are one those parents who help their kids in any way possible! Thank you, you have a great week as well!
DeleteHappy blogiversary & thanks for a chance at your awesome giveaway :) I'm late to the Illuminae party too, so late that I haven't even read it yet Lol but I do own it and am really looking forward to reading it soon! I've also been trying to stay away from too many reviews and potential spoilers, it sounds like such a neat reading experience so I want to go in blind. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteHello, Jen. What are you waiting for? Start reading Illuminae today! It seems daunting at 599 pages, but it really does read super fast. I hope you love it!
DeleteOh, happy blogoversary! I'm way late to the Illuminae party too, despite having heard about all the buzz surrounding it for a long, long time now. I had such a busy year last year that I assumed I would just not ever be able to get around to it, but now reading how you were able to get through it quite quickly... I'm thinking I should request it from my library to give it a go!
ReplyDeleteHi Aylee! I got my copy from the library, as I wasn't sure of it. The amazing thing was it was just sitting on the shelf when I went to get something else I had put on hold. I grabbed it, gleefully and took it home. Usually, if there is something I want, I have to wait on the holds list for months. This was surely a sign I needed to read it, pronto!
DeleteI am so lucky because my morning drive is timed perfectly to listen to the Writer's Almanac every morning when my local NPR station broadcasts it!! ♥ Garrison Keillor!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy Monday Musts!
Oh, you are lucky, Eva! I listen to the podcasts of it. Sometimes I wait and listen to a bunch of them as I am cooking dinner. I love Garrison Keillor's voice!
DeleteIlluminae was amazing! I got finished reading it recently and I ended up really liking it even though I wasn't a huge fan of the format. I featured it as my Monday Musts a few weeks ago. Glad you liked it :D
