Stacking The Shelves #85 & Sunday Post #48

I am combining two great blog hops:  Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer).  Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about.  I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription.  If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back! As always, all book cover images are linked to GoodReads so if you see a book you want to learn more about, just click away...

On The Blog:

I was able to review some wonderful books this week!  My favorite would be The Little French Bistro by Nina George.  This is a general fiction book about a woman who must reassess her life.  She flees to a small village in Brittany, France to find herself.  Loved It!

Also, I have been finding more indie bookstores in my area!  I'm excited to share what events they are having in my weekly roundup of Bay Area book events.  I really want to support all bookstores so they will keep having bookish events!

In Real Life:
There's not much happening for me other than reading lots of books!  I took the bus for the first time in the East Bay with my son.  He will be going to college and will need to take the bus each day, starting in August.  So we had a trial run.  Lesson learned: ask the bus driver which direction his line goes.  We took the wrong bus on the way home, and had to sit for over 1.5 hours waiting for the bus to do a complete circle!

I had this week off, and next week I will work at our district's summer special education program.

Currently, I am reading Toward a Secret Sky, by Heather MacLean.  Sorry, but I am really not liking it.  Too many cliches!  I am also listening to Lincoln On The Bardo, by George Saunders.  This is one weird book!  I'm half-way finished with it, and I still don't know how I feel about it.  Dark Triumph is fun:  full of assassins and royal double-dealings.

What are you reading right now?  What books did you get this week that you are itching to start right away?  Let me know in the comments.

  2. It sounds like you had a good week (other than the bus mishap). I’m interested to hear what you think of the George Saunders book. I’ve read a few of his short stories, and they’re very weird.

    1. Yes!!! Weird is the first adjective I would use for this book. I'm about half way through, and I still don't really understand what's happening!

  3. I thought Toward a Secret Sky was full of cliches. I ended up somewhat enjoying the book, but not totally loving it. I loved Dark Triumph though! That series is one of my all-time favorites. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a fabulous weekend, Ardis. =)

    Check out my STS post!

  8. I was curious about the Lincoln book and have it earmarked for audio. I shall await your review. Oh lord, the whole bus thing would have sent me into a panic. I could get lost in the grocery store!

  9. I have an earlier book in the Gigi Panadian series but haven't read it. I love the treasure hunt elements and am really looking forward to it! I need to try The Little French Bistro. I read the previous book by George and it didn't work for me but I did like the writing style so I think I need to give her another chance. That's fantastic about an indie bookstore! We don't have one here but I do try to visit any in any town I go too. Have a great week!
