Stacking The Shelves #107 & Sunday Post #71

I am combining two great blog hops:  Stacking The Shelves (a Saturday feature by Team Tynga's Reviews), and Sunday Post (a Sunday feature by the Caffeinated Book Reviewer).  Both of these features give people a chance to post about what books they received and also an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what others are excited about.  I really enjoy see everyone's version of these features! If you enjoy my blog, please consider following me via Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, GFC, or by email subscription.  If you leave a comment and tell me you are a new follower, I will follow you back!

I have begun to participate in the Amazon affiliate program, so if you click on any of the book covers it will take you to Amazon if you want to buy the book.  I will be getting a small fee for each purchase.

On The Blog:
I spent most of last weekend writing, so I let the blog run on autopilot for this week.  It was rather freeing, not racing to finish a review with hours to spare!

In Real Life:
Once again, it has been a busy time at work.  I feel very valued by my colleagues, so even though I'm exhausted at the end of the day, I feel really good about what we do in the classroom.
I haven't gotten much reading done, even though I am really enjoying the book, Where We Belong, by Emily Giffin.  I want to sit for long stretches and read, not read in little snatches of time (like I usually do).  I WILL dedicate more time to reading this weekend.
I WILL, I WILL, I WILL, I WILL....
New Books:
Public Library:

I am continuing my re-read of His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman.  I checked out the second book, The Subtle Knife as an audio book, so I can work around the house and listen at the same time.
For Review:
 Random House Audio:

Isn't this the most gorgeous cover?  I admit to being overly influenced by stunning cover art, but this looks great.  Thank you, Random House Audio!
That's it for this week.  I am looking forward to getting a lot done this weekend, and then spending time with my brother next weekend (and seeing Star Wars!).  Have a wonderful week!

Stacking The Shelves #28

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Go to their website for a complete list of all the participants.  Each week nearly 100 bloggers create a post showing what books they got each week.  It is really fun to see what books everyone is reading right now.

If you enjoy this blog, please subscribe!  I will follow back.  Just leave a comment so I know who to look for!

This marks the second week I have been able to go for a swim and some time in the hot tub this Friday evening!  What a great way to kick off the weekend.  I am so glad for this time off!

 Read This Week:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25819509-leonardhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23836855-illuminae

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29436000-the-demon-girl-s-song

All of these books were wonderful.  I think the audio book version of Illuminae was my favorite because it elicited such an emotional response.  I'm also excited because the authors of that book will be coming to my local Barnes & Noble for a talk!

Bought:

There was a lot of self-imposed drama this week.  My copy of The Raven King was delayed, and I kind of freaked out over it.  I know it is just a book, but I ordered this in December, so it came as a shock that Amazon told me they didn't have the book on the day of it's release.  Really? I had to scramble and finally found a copy at my local Barnes & Noble, on Thursday.

The Star-Touched Queen, and The Rose & The Dagger were both pre-orders, so I was excited to open the box and see these lovelies in the flesh.

When it rains, it pours.  I have really been wanting to read this book, so I was on a long wait list.  Of course, this is the week that it became available.  I will be working pretty hard to read everything I get.

What did you get this week?  What books are you itching to read?  Let me know in the comments.

Stacking The Shelves #24

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Go their blog to see the complete list for all the blogs that do this post (there's usually around 100 blogs!).  It is a lot of fun to blog hop and see what's trending in books!

I am finally feeling back to normal after being sick for weeks!  It was a rather slow week in reading (only two books), but I did get a lot of blogging done!!  After last week's tremendous book haul, I only have a few new acquisitions.  But I have such a backlog of books, I am not unhappy about his week's light load.

I have this coming week off (Whoo hoo!!!) and I plan on reading as much as I can.

Each book cover is linked to GoodReads, if you want more information.

Read This Week:

I loved The Storyteller, by Jodi Picoult.  It has so many layers and nuances to it.  I will be posting a review of this soon, but I must say that any book strong enough to make me cry is going to get lots of stars from me.  I do not cry easily.

Borrowed From A Friend:

I don't know much about this book, but my co-worker recommended it to me and I trust her judgement in these matters.  She is the one who got me to read The Nightingale, By Kristin Hannah, which was amazing!

Bought - Kindle:

I loved the first Aurora Sky novel so much I bought the next one!  I am really looking forward to this book!

I also went on a buying spree on Amazon and pre-ordered a bunch of books that are coming out soon.  There are so many books coming out in April & May, many on the same day!

What books did you get that you are itching to get to?  Let me know in the comments.

Stacking The Shelves #21

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Go to their blog to find the complete list of participants. Each week there are almost 100 blogs showing what books they received.  It is a great way to get the pulse of the book blogging world.

I have been sick this week so, other than reading, I did not do many bookish things.  I do have some great reviews coming up in the next few days that include some author giveaways.

Read This Week:

The Lie Tree is SO AMAZINGLY GOOD!!!  This Gothic mystery is a reminder of how women were discounted in society in the not too distant past.  I will post a review closer to the publication date, which is set for April 19, 2016.

The Night Circus was also such a wonderful book.  I listened to it as an audiobook.  Jim Dale did a wonderful job of creating a magical aura.  He has had lots of practice, narrating all of the Harry Potter audiobooks in the U.S.

Borrowed From The Library:

I've already started on The Storyteller and am enjoying it, so far.  I think Dorothy Must Die will be wickedly good fun!

Stacking The Shleves #19

Stacking The Shelves  is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Go to their site for a complete list of all the participating blogs.  This is a huge Blog Hop, so take some time this weekend to look at all the varied and unique blogs out there.  Each week, there are over 100 blogs that post their Stacking The Shelves.   It is so fun to see what everyone is reading and receiving.

I skipped a post last week, due to my wildly unrealistic expectation of being a part of the Love-a-Thon blog event.  It looked like such a great idea and there were posts to do ahead of time (so many posts...).  Well, I realized on Thursday night that I should have planned better because there was no way I was going to be able to do all the work needed to participate in any meaningful way.  So I bailed!

Here is what I read, and received in the last TWO weeks:

Read:

My favorite book read has got to be Sisi: Empress On Her Own, by Allison Pataki.  It is a grand, sweeping historical fiction based on the famous Empress Elisabeth (or Sisi) of Austria.  She was the Princess Diana of her day:  famous, beautiful, and dreadfully lonely.  I will come out with a review of this book soon.  If you like Historical Fiction, look for this book coming out on March 8th.

Books Bought:

With the movie trailer starting to show up around the web, I thought I should re-read this romantic tear-jerker.  I loved this book, and am really looking forward to the movie!

Books From The Library:

I am an aide in a school and the students I work with are reading this book for some of their reading groups. It looks really good.  I hope to read it quickly so I know what the students are talking about during discussions and reading reflections.

Received As Part Of A Blog Tour:

Whoo Hoo!  I signed up for two blog tours recently and I got both of these in the mail this week!  I am so stoked because I was just expecting to get digital copies!  I have some physical ARC, but that is just because I won some contests.  I feel like such a grown-up blogger now!

Giveaway:

Speaking of being a grown-up blogger, I just celebrated my one year blogging anniversary!  In honor of that, I am doing a rafflecopter contest.  Follow this blog and enter for a chance to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card!!!  I feel really blessed to be a blogger and to be a part of such a wonderful community of bookworms!

Stacking The Shelves #18

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.  Go to their blog for a complete list of all the participating bloggers.  Each week, over 100 blogs show you what books they received and what their excited about.  This is a super fun blog hop!

It has been a fun, but crazy week for me!  I work in a school and on Thursday we had all the Valentine's parties.  How were they?  Let's just say it was high energy and leave it at that.  I feel really lucky to have had Friday off (and I get Monday off as well).

I have been doing lots of writing this past week.  Last weekend, I made a goal of visiting and commenting on every blog that registered on Tynga's Linky-link list.   There were 101 blogs and I did it!  I think I will try to do this again this weekend.  What I loved about it was seeing all the various blogs and how each blogger interpreted the Stacking The Shelves theme.

Next Saturday I will not do Stacking The Shelves.  Instead, I will be participating in the 2016 weekend Love-a-Thon:

Hosted by:

                      Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books

                      Cee @ The Novel Hermit

                      Hazel @ Stay Bookish

                      Mel @ The Daily Prophecy

My most anticipated book obtained this week is Leah Remini's memoir, Troublemaker.  I immediately started listening to this audiobook and it did not disappoint.

Read This Week:

I loved all three of these books!  The Girls From Everywhere was a fun time-travel story.  The Arrangement was a deep look into the compromises made in a marriage.  And the audiobook of Troublemaker was mesmerizing.

Books I won in contests:

I forgot to post this last week, but I won this in a Twitter giveaway!

Kindle Books I Bought:

Eternity was a Freebie!!!  The Coffee Girl looks really fun and was only $1.99.  I know I will want to read it after finishing something heavy.

Books from the Library:

I was so happy to start getting books from the library again.  This is part of my goal of finding ways to read for my own pleasure, not just for reviews.  Although I may review these books, I am mainly reading these for pleasure.

What books did you get this week?   Which book are you most excited to read?  Let me know in the comments.

Stacking The Shelves #17

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Go there to find the complete list of all the participating blogs.

Happy Saturday everyone!  I love this feature because I can get a real sense of what bloggers are excited about reading soon.  Last week, I was able to get to look at, and post comments on, about 50 blogs!  This week, I will really amp it up and try and comment on EVERY blog that participates.  Will I succeed?  Well, I am sure to have my work cut out for me as last week over 100 blogs registered on the linky link!  Also, I would love some new followers, so if you like what you see, please follow me and let me know in the comments so I can follow you back.

Read This Week:

Both books were wonderful, but my favorite read of the week was The Nightingale.  My friends all are reading The Nightingale and after reading it I can see why!  It is such an epic saga of French survival during WWII.  The characters are beautiful and the situations are heartbreaking.  I will post a full review of this amazing book next week on my blog.  But I can tell you now, this will be one of my favorite books of the year.

Acquired from NetGalley:

I finally got a "Wish Granted" from NetGalley!  I think this is as rare as a unicorn sighting, so I feel really lucky right now!

Won From the YA Contemporary Scavenger Hunt:

I won this wonderful ARC copy book, about a dancer who is dealing with body-image issues, from the 2016 YA Contemporary Scavenger Hunt, run by The Book Belles.  Thank you Author Kathryn Holmes for putting up this prize, signing it, and then getting it to me so quickly!  Immediately upon opening the package the book was snatched up by my teen daughter, so it may be a few days until I actually get to read it.

Book Store Finds:

I found these used books at a fantastic bookstore last Saturday night.  My husband & I had a fun date night that included (yes) a long browse at a cool bookstore!  I already read Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour bookstore, but I want my husband to read it.  And someday, when I have a whole week (or two) to devote to it, I will read all 775 pages of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.  It will be a personal reading challenge...

What books did you get this week?  Which ones are you most excited to read?  For me, I am very ready to read How It Feels To Fly.  It looks like a very special YA book.
