Stacking The Shelves #34

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.  Each week, nearly 100 bloggers from around the world share what books they got other fun blogger news!  Go to Tynga's website for the complete list of blogs & hop around!

It has been an AMAZING week of being a book enthusiast.  First there was the Bay Area Book Festival last weekend, and last night was a fun author event at my local Barnes & Noble.  Well, if I did happen to be on a book buying ban...  this week would be considered an epic fail.  But I'm so glad because I score so many exciting books!

Read This week:

I got lots of reading done this past week!  I finally finished the audio book of The Little Paris Bookshop, by Nina George.  What a wonderful production of this romantic book.  The other books I read were both very enjoyable, as well.

From The Bay Area Book Festival:

Self-Published Books:

I met the authors of these books and their enthusiasm was contagious!  They both had a love of storytelling and a deep need to share their books with the world.

Free Books!

The Bay Area Book Festival had an outdoor art installation of 50,000 books! All were free for the taking!  It was a beautiful thing to see hundreds of people browsing and getting excited about books.

Books from a Yoga Booth:

Time to try something new and different?  These books look like they will make the philosophy of Yoga more accessible, so I was willing to make a "donation" and give these a try.

Bought From Author Signings at the Festival:

I also was able to get my copies of  Everything, Everything,  by Nicola Yoon, and The Absolutely True Diary Of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie signed by the authors.

Oh this was so much fun!!!

From NetGalley:

From Barnes & Noble B'Fest:

What a fun event!  I have already read Outrun The Moon, but I wanted a physical copy and I got to talk to the wonderful Stacey Lee.  I also got I'll Give You The Sun and met the author Jandy Nelson.  I will summarize this event, plus several others in another post.

What did you get this week?  What books are you chomping at the bit to start this week?  Let me know in the comments.

    1. Thank you, Jessica. Where I live usually does not have many book events. They all just seemed to convergein the last week or so. I think I have all my summer reading set now.

    1. I really liked The Little Paris Bookshop. There was one element I did not care for, which is why I didn't give it 5/5 stars. But, overall it was a wonderful book.

    1. Hi Lexxie, I did do a write up (with pictures) on my blog last week. Here is the link: http://ponderingtheprose.blogspot.com/2016/06/the-2nd-annual-bay-area-book-festival.html It was a very fun event. There are lots of author events (I am learning) at bookstores, but not many of these big festivals in the Bay Area. I wish I could travel to some of the ALA events.

    1. I met the author at the Bay Area Book Festival. She was very nice. The premise of a student traveling abroad appealed to me because I did that in college, and my daughter may also be doing that in the future. I also love supporting emerging authors, so I hope I like it and can give it a good review.

  10. OMG it sounds like you had a great time at events! Whoohoo always love some book events if only there were more around me and I had unlimited funds ;) I haven't heard of many of the titles but there are a handful I've read or have on my TBR that are exciting. I hope you enjoy all of your finds!

    1. Thank you, Eve. I did have a great time. Listening to authors talk about books really is inspiring (not that I think I could ever get published, but I can dream). Have a fun week.

  11. The festival sounds great and I really like the looks of All Hallows Eve. I really want to grab a copy of Root for my Kindle as I have heard a few really good things about it. I know it's a trivial comment, but I can't look at the cover of The Way to Game the Walk of Shame without thinking "I want those shoes!" Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. Yes, and that swirly skirt, too! I will be posting a review of The Way To Game The Walk Of Shame soon. If you like Jenny Han's books, then you will love this one. The author of The Root, Na'amen Tilahun, was a really fun panelist that I heard during one of the events. He is a debut writer, so I hope I like it and can give it a great review.

    1. Thank you. I was amazed by how well organized the events were (so unlike Silicon Valley ComicCon). There was some confusion about where the book signings would be, but it wasn't that bad. I will definitely go next year.

    1. Victoria Schwab was a wonderful speaker. She had so much to say about diversity in Fantasy (The author CHOOSES to include or exclude diverse characters, just like they CHOOSE to include dragons and night walkers). I loved her panel discussion.

    1. I have been wanting to get Veronica Rossi's book for a long time. But I bought so many books over the past two weeks, that I MUST put myself on a book buying ban. It will take me all summer to read what I have already.
