Stacking The Shelves #28

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Go to their website for a complete list of all the participants.  Each week nearly 100 bloggers create a post showing what books they got each week.  It is really fun to see what books everyone is reading right now.

If you enjoy this blog, please subscribe!  I will follow back.  Just leave a comment so I know who to look for!

This marks the second week I have been able to go for a swim and some time in the hot tub this Friday evening!  What a great way to kick off the weekend.  I am so glad for this time off!

 Read This Week:

All of these books were wonderful.  I think the audio book version of Illuminae was my favorite because it elicited such an emotional response.  I'm also excited because the authors of that book will be coming to my local Barnes & Noble for a talk!

Bought:

There was a lot of self-imposed drama this week.  My copy of The Raven King was delayed, and I kind of freaked out over it.  I know it is just a book, but I ordered this in December, so it came as a shock that Amazon told me they didn't have the book on the day of it's release.  Really? I had to scramble and finally found a copy at my local Barnes & Noble, on Thursday.

The Star-Touched Queen, and The Rose & The Dagger were both pre-orders, so I was excited to open the box and see these lovelies in the flesh.

From The Library:

When it rains, it pours.  I have really been wanting to read this book, so I was on a long wait list.  Of course, this is the week that it became available.  I will be working pretty hard to read everything I get.

What did you get this week?  What books are you itching to read?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. Haha, the freaking about late copies is totally understandable. It's just a book... just a book that you've been waiting for and pining for in your dreams and in reality for ages! :) Great haul!

  2. The service at Amazon isn't great at times especially for people like me who refuse to pay for Prime. I don't have a choice but to use Amazon as the Indie books I love are not available in the shops!

    1. Yes, sadly Amazon is the only way to get certain books, particularly on the Kindle. I didn't mind if the book was a few days late, but they sent me a note on the release day saying it would be 1-3 MONTHS before it would arrive. Well, I kind of lost it! (Deep breaths...). It's all good now. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Yes, I am excited to read it, but I MUST get to The Raven King, before I read any spoilers. I really hope I can get to it by the end of the week.

  7. It is annoying when a pre-ordered book doesn't arrive. Glad you found another copy and hope you get a refund from Amazon.
    Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thank you, Lauren. I had to call customer service and cancel the order. Now I am re-reading all the Raven Boys books to work up to The Raven King. Re-reading them is so cool because I am picking up on clues that went over my head the first time. It's like digging for treasure.

    1. I got The Passenger from the library. There are so many great books coming out in this next month, that I can't buy them all, outright. I hope you enjoy the audio book version.

  10. Oh, you have some great books! It's a bummer about Amazon. If I pre-order, I always seem to get my books late as well. Very frustrating!

    Hope you enjoy your books!

    1. Hi Stacey, this is a first for Amazon & me. They are usually right on time. If it had been a matter of a few days, that would be okay. But they sent me a note saying it would be 1-3 months! I could hardly contain myself as I read that email! It's all resolved now as we went into a brick and mortar bookstore and found a copy.

  11. Oh, I hate it when Amazon fails like that! They've done it for a couple of new releases I preordered, lately. So annoying. Glad you did get your hands on a copy!

  13. I have never read Stiefvater, but I am definitely curious. How disappointing when a book is not released on the expected date. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. It finally got resolved. I really love The Raven Boys series. It is my all time favorite, so I was very emotionally invested in getting this book. Now I am re-reading the entire series (fun!). Have a great week.

    1. I cnanot sing the praises of Illuminae Loud enough. It is such an unusual and powerful book. It's part romance, part space opera, part graphic novel. I have listened to the audio and read the print book. The wonderful part of it is that both offered something new with each experience. I hope you will find a copy and enjoy it.

    1. I actually got three books I was waiting for this week, and next week there are two more big releases: Warrior Witch and A Court of Mist & Fury. I am having a mini meltdown just writing this. I just want to sit at home and read all day. Work? What is that? Oh well, I will just have to squeeze in as much reading as I possibly can in 5 minute snatches.

  16. I think I've read a similar problem with a pre-ordered The Raven King through Amazon.. It sucks when pre-orders don't come on time (what's the point of pre-orders when they don't arrive on time? >__<).. Nice to know you still got your hands on it :) Hope you enjoy your new books!
