Stacking The Shelves #32

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Team Tynga's Reviews.  Go to their website for a complete list of all the participants.  Each week, nearly 100 bloggers post about what books they got and read.  It is really fun to hop from blog to blog and see what everyone is excited about.

It's been another busy week for me as school winds down.  I can't wait for summer and all the reading opportunities it affords.  I have been listening to several audio books on my commute lately, so that is why my book count is remaining steady at three books a week.

Books Read This Week:

I loved Crenshaw.  This is an important book for middle grade readers.  I listened to All The Bright Places with my teen daughter.  It was as good as I remember, but a little embarrassing for both of us during the sexy scenes!  I wasn't overly fond of The Fifth Avenue Artists Society.  I'll post a review of this book soon.

Having lived in Japan for several years, I was very interested in this book, about a family in Japan.  I really want to like this as I hope it induces me to think about my wonderful memories of this country.

I'm looking forward to this one (and what a cute cover!).

What did you get this week?  What are you dying to read?  Let me know in the comments.

  1. I used to read a lot of asian themed books a few years back when I first joined bookcrossing but it's been a long time since I read one. I think my tastes have narrowed as I get older! Hope you enjoy your books!

    1. It was just my husband & me living in Japan, until I had our first child there. We took the kids back to visit a few years ago. Showing our kids Japan, seeing the delight (and sometimes confusion) on their faces, made it such a memorable trip.

  4. I saw that Crenshaw is on sale today at Amazon. I may need to give it another look. The Way to Game the Walk of Shame looks like a fun one. Enjoy all of your new books!

    1. I listened to Crenshaw as an audio book, but I think it would be fine an an e-book, or in print. It deals with a family struggling economically, from the point of view of an 11 year old. It was really moving.

    1. Thank you, Sofia. I have read it, and now I listened to it as an audio book. It IS a bit more depressing than I remembered it to be. But, I think it, ultimately, shows a lot of hope.

  6. I keep being recommended All the Bright Places, but I don't know if it'd be my thing. Yay for you on listening to it with your daughter and doing stuff like that with her.

    1. I'm not gonna lie: some of the listening was super uncomfortable for both of us! But we were able to laugh about our unease. And it got us to talking about many things. So I'm glad we listened to it together.

    1. Yes, it does! I need to finish the book I'm currently reading, and then I will start it. I know many people can read multiple books at once, but not me.
